Knowledge Exchange: from research to impact

The Knowledge Exchange (KE) Concordat defines KE as 'a collaborative, creative endeavour that translates knowledge and research into impact in society and the economy'. There is no single model for this mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge, expertise and skilled people between the research arena and user communities, including the general public. Knowledge exchange can be accomplished through a multitude of activities but should always be a two-way process of engagement, helping to generate benefits for society from our research expertise and findings.

In line with the University's Research Strategy 2020-2025, our aim is to engender a culture in which engagement, collaboration and co-creation are embedded within the research environment.

Staff across Research & Innovation Services work in partnership with Colleges to support impactful research, and manage strategic knowledge exchange projects and funding initiatives, including a full portfolio of UKRI Impact Acceleration Accounts and the University's own Glasgow Knowledge Exchange Fund.

Impacts grow out of and are uniquely shaped by your research and your engagement with communities of research users, from specialist groups to companies or the public.

Specialised support in knowledge exchange and impact planning, and in innovation and enterprise activity is available, and we work alongside colleagues in each College to provide comprehensive support relevant to your research background and your project idea.
