Biomedical Vacation Scholarships at the University of Glasgow - Summer 2023
Through funding from the Wellcome Trust, the University of Glasgow is offering Biomedical Vacation Scholarships for undergraduate students over the Summer of 2023. The scheme provides an exciting opportunity for students to contribute to cutting-edge research at University of Glasgow, acquire specific scientific skills, and consider future career paths beyond their first degree.
Students who have identified a summer project/activity connected to their studies may apply for funding by this route provided that they are not already in receipt of another scholarship supporting the same work.
We are especially keen to recruit students from backgrounds under-represented in science and 50% of positions are ring-fenced for individuals that meet at least one of the following widening participation criteria:
1. Identify as having a disability
2. Be in receipt of enhanced maintenance support from the relevant UK student finance agency to help with living costs during study
3. Registered with your university’s widening participation team

Applicants description of the project should include:
- Where it takes place,
- Your supervisor (who has to agree in advance to your application being submitted),
- A brief summary of the project,
- A description of how this experience may benefit you.

Students must be studying a degree in Science, Maths, engineering, or medicine and should normally be between their 3rd/4th year (Scotland) or 2nd/3rd year (rest of UK) during summer 2023. The project should have a biomedical based theme and be achievable in the time scale. Projects should enable students to enhance their skills and and learn about being part of an academic lab group.
- Projects can be a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 8 weeks. students are paid approx. £3,322 (for an 8 week project).
- Additional financial support may be available for additional travel or accommodation costs in circumstances in which financial issues would limit or prevent a successful student taking up the Scholarship.
The expected start for projects is Monday 5th June 2023 but this is flexible and start date can be agreed with supervisor.
